Ever hear someone say the above--'I Am Spiritual But Not Religious'? I would tend to think you have, you hear it alot these days. The connotation of this phrase is that "I am loving(spiritual) but without all those nasty rules and regulations religion(Christian in particular) has." People who say this often embrace new-age or eastern religions which have many admirable beliefs such as kindness to others and love.
However, believers recognize that this is lacking and incomplete because of what the Bible says.
We know there is only 'One Way' to real peace and happiness on this earth and after. This of course is through an acceptance of Jesus as the Son of God and Our Savior.
How sad that there are so many Christian churches and pastors in these latter days that teach the 'many ways to heaven' falsehood.
As for the Christian faith? Yes, there are commandments and a way of conducting yourself but they are not a burden to us as so many people believe they are. In fact, they are Our Lord's way of protecting us from ourselves and our sinful desires.
Now consider this, has there ever been such a difficult time to share your faith as there is now?
We have a widespread watering down and compromising of 'the faith once delivered unto the saints' by the Churches, a hostile media as well as schools and colleges that either espouse doubt about Christianity or straightout deny it's relevancy.
The big problem with the 'spiritual but not religious' mindset is that it won't bring real peace on this earth and salvation.
So what are we to do? We are to reach out to those who are lost, and that includes the 'spiritual but not religious crowd.'
We must pray for these people and ask God to provide us with the opportunity for us to touch their hearts and minds.
Do not lose sight of what the fate is for those who die and don't have Jesus.
And remember, we will give an account for what we did and didn't do in this earthly life.
